Can somebody explain to me why Texas has essentially been thrown into the 1800s? I (very genuinely) don't understand the root cause of why many Texans are essentially without power - and have been for more than 24 hours.

- 0% chance Texas runs primarily on (now frozen) hydroelectric - power load must be higher for A/C, primarily gas for heat(?) - safety standards wouldn't allow physical failures of power plants and lines due to cold/snow (right?) What is going on?
