The core tenet of a Greater Fool grift is to get other people to buy the thing you have at a value higher than it actually has so you can unload it for a profit before they realize the scam.

In order to make this work, you need an "expert" who values the thing higher than it actually is, so that you can scam the mark.

Let's say you've been scamming marks for years by selling them inferior computer hardware at a luxury premium. They trust you on tech now, so you can parlay that trust into expertise on other technology-adjacent scams.

So you buy a ton of worthless stuff, and then casually mention that you are interested in it. Your tech expertise drives speculation on the worthless stuff, pushing the price up. You make a ton of money by selling to these new speculators. The con is complete.

By the way, yes, this seems like it would eventually blow up on you, right? No way you could sell inferior products for very long, right? mobile.twitter.com/rockerest/status/1458199302929518599

The key is to make sure your marks NEVER find out there's another world out there. Lie about the alternatives. Make sure they believe the only way to have safety is through you. Make them afraid that if they ever leave, their identity will immediately be stolen.

Make sure that when they start using your product, if they ever leave they lose EVERYTHING. No more messages, no more pictures backed up, no more passwords to log in to their email, no more EMAIL, nothing.

    It's a perfect long con.
