    These are Bluetooth devices. support.apple.com/en-us/HT212227 An activated one is in a bag 1 foot from my phone. It's not available via Bluetooth on my phone. This kind of obfuscation isn't part of the BT protocol, they had to intentionally break it.

      Apple is the absolute top of the market, best in class at selling products based on fear. You don't feel fear when you buy them, but every repeated sale is driven by "but what if s..s..SOMETHING happens?"
