    1. Every single disposable paper cup is guaranteed to leak from under the lid at the seam. If someone has a coffee shop that has cups that don't have this problem I will exclusively buy coffee there, I'm not even kidding.

Conceptually, it makes sense: the seam is the one spot where the lid can't make a good seal. That said, not leaking is sort of the core value proposition of a cup with a lid, so this seems like a billion dollar problem.

I also think this is the reason that some fast food places have switched to plastic cups for cold drinks (can't switch for hot drinks).

"Paper" cups have always been landfill anyway: go to any place that has recycling (e.g. Starbucks) and you'll note that their cups are NOT recyclable. All hot-drink paper cups have a plastic inner lining to keep the paper from disintegrating.

At least the 100% plastic cups can target a fully recyclable plastic, so it might be a net positive. This could (?) also be why they haven't switched for hot drinks: heat resistant plastic that doesn't leech chemicals is expensive, and rarely transparent.

Here's the typical Starbucks trash/recycle bin. You'll note that it says no cups at all (aftermarket red notes not withstanding). It does seem Starbucks is trying to fix this for their own cups "by 2022", but I'll believe it when I see it starbucks.com/responsibility/environment/recycling
