Another thing that seems like nobody is wary of is the "free" gifts. This thread has an example where somebody "airdropped" 15% of something to "build good will." Huh? What universe does this happen in? This isn't building good will, it's "first hit is free." polotek/1442259809999331330

Once you have a small stake, you'll both A) buy more (with your money, time, the environment, etc.) and B) proselytize this same way so your "investment" grows in value. This is the only way a pyramid scheme works, and they NEED you to get invested so their value grows.

By the way, if you think that being involved in a grift/pyramid scheme/long con (whether knowingly or not) is a new experience for someone like a partner at a16z, I have some bad news about what they call "value" and "growth".
