    1. This is one of the many unspoken ways companies screw employees. If the stock will one day be worth a bunch, then you'll be fine paying me the salary you advertised in cash and throwing the options in as a little golden handcuff, right? Right? RIGHT? cassidoo/1492321733608620038

Cause if it's going to be worth so much then we'll all be rich and an appropriate salary is your investment in the company, and the options are an incentive for me to stay for a long time, risking professional stagnation or parallel opportunities that could be better.

We each should put in equal risk. RIGHT? RIGHT, COMPANIES THAT OFFER OPTIONS AS PART OF COMPENSATION TO AVOID PAYING THE MARKET RATE? RIGHT?

Whenever an offer includes options I just ignore it. It's not compensation for anything until the company is public, and even then most options packages require SUBSTANTIAL up front capital + hefty taxes (AMT) and it's not feasible for anyone who ACTUALLY needs the compensation.

It's joke money, and it's insulting to get it in offers because the company is just trying to low-ball.
