DanielNill In my experience, this way of promoting better code always falls apart. The code isn't "safer" it's just following some prescription, and most developers don't actually take the time to learn why. The code works in certain circumstances and then causes all kinds of other issues.

DanielNill By "this way" what I mean is some guy says "this is a 'best practice'" and then the rabid hordes pick it up and ostracize anyone who doesn't do the "best practice." It's a cycle of poorly justified claims reinforced by a general lack of understanding.
